Our Story

Martens Legal is a modern and progressive law firm that practices exclusively in family law.

After close to 10 years of working in traditional law firms, in 2017 Director and Principal Family Lawyer, Tegan Martens founded Martens Legal. Why? Because her approach never quite fit into the traditional ways and culture of a law firm. She ultimately decided that this meant she needed to create her own law firm that would align with her own personal values and allow her to be the best family lawyer and leader she could be.

So, after many months of research and fact checking (typical lawyer right…!), Tegan launched Martens Legal from her humble home office, with 2 clients on the books and a whole lot of determination! Over the years, the team has grown and the firm has expanded to offices in both Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast; however, the personal values and primary reasons for Tegan starting the firm remain the same, and always will.

The 3 core values which we feel truly reflect our firm are that:

Guiding a person through some of the most difficult times and decisions of their life with care and sincerity is our primary purpose in everything we do.

2. We Are Transparent

We are transparent with our clients about what to expect – from start to finish – and in particular, we pride ourselves in communicating realistic costs, timeframes and outcomes for every single client.

3. We Value Strategic Planning

Having a plan and proactive strategy is key. We take the time to understand our clients desired outcomes from the beginning before we prepare a plan that is tailored to achieving them. 

Our Approach

Over the years we have organically founded a niche within family law separations as more and more separated couples are wanting to resolve their separation amicably and without having to resort to damaging court litigation. Why? Because no one ever wins in court litigation due to the significant financial and emotional toll that it involves. This is why it should always be a last resort.

The reality is however that not everyone will be able to resolve their separation amicably. We have no hesitation in these situations to engage in worthy argument or debate provided it will benefit and progress our clients matter, whether that is during negotiations, mediation or court litigation.

Due to the beauty of technology, we regularly assist people Australia-wide.

North Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast are our core service areas however due to our office locations.

You will find our Brisbane office located at 359 Gympie Road, Kedron and our Sunshine Coast office at 174 Brisbane Road, Mooloolaba – just a few minutes from the beach!
